2019 Youth Summer Camps at ACNW

Experience Your Environment!

The Audubon Center of the North Woods (ACNW) offers a variety of youth camps that have a focus on wildlife, nature, challenge and outdoor skills. Experience the great outdoors and make memories that last a lifetime! ACNW is located on Grindstone Lake, near Sandstone, MN - about 90 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

All of our camps are overnight, residential camps with indoor lodging. ACNW provides great accommodations, wonderful scratch-based meal service, a top-notch, experienced staff, and engaging activities to provide one of the best outdoor camp experiences around.

Need-based scholarships are available.

ACNW has been committed to providing environmental and outdoor education experiences to all ages since 1971. Our programs connect people with the outdoors with a focus on developing environmental understanding, ethics and responsibility through experiences that link nature and humans. We are accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and offer residential environmental & outdoor educational experiences to K12 youth, families, college students & adults, as well as youth summer camps.

In addition to our summer youth camps, we are an environmental learning center whose mission is:  To instill a connection and commitment to the environment in people of all communities through experiential learning.

The very backbone of our organization is our residential K-12 schools program, connects thousands of students to nature every year, immersing them in hands-on learning during their several days with us and leaving indelible impacts on them. Through our summer camp programs, we can extend this impact on scores of children, making incredible memories outside and with each other.  They are what keep us going, striving to reach more individuals because we see the power that nature has in educating and inspiring people of all ages, demographics and backgrounds. We are helping foster real, meaningful and impactful experiences for thousands of children each year through our wide-ranging experiential learning programs.

Camp Facilities

Most of our campers will be lodged in our Crosby Lodge - built in 1997, it holds 14 dorm rooms; each room sleeps up to 8, featuring solid wood bunks and private bathroom facilities. Campers are separated by gender and camp staff sleep in same building. Occasionally, with our smaller capacity camps, our campers will use our Lowry Lodge - a split level building with 5 dorm rooms; each room sleeps up to 6, featuring solid wood bunks and shared bathrooms (separate boy’s and girl’s multistall) on the lower level.

Meal service is primarily held in our large, lakeside dining hall - however, there is an outdoor cooking meal incorporated into most of our camps.  Our food service is scratch-based cooking, with accommodations for most dietary restrictions (ie, food allergies, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, peanut-free, etc.).

Our 780-acre lakeside campus, with over 7 miles of trails, holds a variety of indoor and dispersed classrooms and we focus on being in the great outdoors.  Deep, clear Grindstone Lake provides a wonderful backdrop for water activities included in our camps, such as fishing, swimming, canoeing, etc.

Camp Staff

Our experienced, highly-trained staff are all certified in First Aid and CPR; some are certified Wilderness First Responders.
