No experience other than enthusiastic participation is required.

ARCC offers trips in four categories:

Community Service Adventures:  ARCC's Community Service Adventures offer a chance to give something back to the communities we visit while taking part in world-class adventure activities. Service sections include teaching English to local school children, working in hospitals or clinics, and building much needed facilities in rural villages. Adventures in Africa, Australia, California, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Fiji, Hawaii, Morocco, Spain, and Thailand.  Lodging will be in local guest-houses, small hotels, and occasionally camping.

Blue Water Adventures:  The Blue Water Adventures generally focus on warm water activities such as sailing, SCUBA diving and surfing.  There is no overnight backpacking on any Blue Water Adventures.  The trips have strong educational and certification components.  Blue Water Adventures are offered in Belize, Costa Rica, Fiji, Greece, Hawaii, Italy, New Zealand and Tahiti.  Lodging on a Blue Water Adventure is a mix of camping, small hotels and hostels, and on live-aboard sailboats.

Language & Service Adventures:  Language Adventures are international programs where learning a language, exploring the culture, and getting off the beaten path are an integral part of the adventure.  Features time at accredited language schools working with native speakers, and working on community service projects.  Programs are in France, Spain, or Costa Rica and Guatemala.  Lodging is a mix of hotels, hostels, and village-hosted stays.  Time not in class will be spent exploring cities and participating in adventure activities like windsurfing, whitewater rafting, surfing and zip-lining.

Multisport Adventures:  Our Multisport Adventures offer a range of activities like rafting, rock climbing, or sea kayaking, as well as overnight wilderness backpacking in North America and Europe. Curriculum focuses on individual development and group leadership. Multisport Adventures are suitable for both “first timers” and experienced students.  Lodging is predominantly camping in some of the most spectacular locations in North America and Europe.

Camp Staff

We feel that the greatest single contributor to making our trips successful is our skilled and talented staff. We take great care in choosing our leaders each summer, and our competitive hiring process ensures ARCC students receive the finest quality leadership in the industry. Our leaders inspire, motivate, and set a positive example that lasts far beyond the summer’s end. Ranging from 21-32 years old, our leaders have extensive experience in team leading, adventure travel, marine biology, service, and language.  ARCC boasts over a fifty percent return rate for staff, which speaks highly for the quality of leadership, students, and programs.

Each ARCC leader has a minimum of 80 hours of training in Emergency Wilderness Medicine and many of our leaders are Emergency Medical Technicians with over 120 hours of emergency medical training. In addition to the multitude of experiences our leaders bring to ARCC, each leader is required to attend our nine day intensive staff training which focuses on safety, group dynamics, logistics, communications, protocols, and emergency procedures.
