Ballibay is an arts summer camp for boys and girls ages 6 through 16. We offer a wide range of non-competitive fine and performing arts activities in a fun, friendly traditional setting.

We are located on an exquisitely beautiful 200-acre mountaintop campus in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Our sessions range from 2 to 7 weeks in length. Ballibay was established in 1964, and is American Camping Association accredited.

Ballibay offers exciting programs in theater, the visual arts, music, dance, video, radio, and rock-n-roll music. We have an excellent horseback riding program, swimming instruction, and daily sports and movement activities.

Staff members receive 1 day off per week and every other night off. All camp facilities are available to staff members during their time off, except horseback riding. The food is excellent for omnivores and vegetarians alike. On-campus facilities specifically for staff members include laundry, computers, e-mail, a phone, and a comfy lounge with a TV/VCR, refrigerator, pool table, and more.

Staff members are mostly graduate and undergraduate students, teachers, and professionals in their fine and performing arts fields. Average staff age is early-twenties, but we do have staff in their late twenties and thirties; and several camp parents are also staff members. Staff work cooperatively and collaboratively, and share many wonderful experiences with each other and with the kids throughout the summer. Many staff return year after year to work with us. We offer 8 week contracts beginning June 14 or June 21, 2009.

Ballibay has three sister camps: The Farm Arts Camp, Endless Mountains Dance Camp, and The Rock Farm.

DANCE INSTRUCTORS

Dance Instructors at Ballibay teach in a multi-faceted dance program.

Our program includes:
traditional dance class offerings
choreography and direction of performance-oriented works for our two Music and Dance Reviews each summer
assistance to campers developing their own choreography for talent shows
regular stretching classes and guided warm ups open to all campers
other classes in styles and techniques in which our instructors are skilled
Our dance program is open to campers of all ages, skill and experience levels. Like all of our camp programs, we emphasize individual growth and a non-competitive learning environment.

Most dance instructors are also cabin counselors (see benefits section).

TECHNICAL THEATRE STAFF

Technical Theater Staff at Ballibay design and implement lighting, sound and sets for nearly 40 productions each summer; plays, musicals,talents shows, rock-n-roll band nights and more. Productions vary in complexity from easily implemented indoor shows to complex outdoor 'environmental' productions.

Ballibay technical theatre positions are only for people with a real love for this field; the positions are mentally and physically challenging, but extremely rewarding in terms of accomplishments and experience. A summer of Ballibay tech will leave you feeling that you have really done something with your summer!

Technical theatre staff are invited and encouraged to make teaching apart of their job; many of our campers are interested in the technical aspects of theatre; from running the lighting board or followspot all the way to working as design assistants. Most technical theatre staff are also cabin counselors (see benefits section).

THEATRE DIRECTORS

Theatre Directors at Ballibay direct three or four productions over a seven week period. One or two of these productions will be full-length large cast productions, the others will be one-act or script-in-hand, smaller cast shows.

Directors cast their own shows from a pool of all interested campers,and meet with their casts 2-3 hours each day for rehearsals. Rehearsal periods vary from 5-25 days depending upon the scale of the show.

When not involved in rehearsals, directors have time to do production work, and are expected to teach several informal classes each week. Most directors are also cabin counselors (see benefits section).

COSTUME STAFF

Costume Staff at Ballibay design and construct wardrobes for about 25 productions each summer; modern and classical plays, musicals, music and dance reviews, and more. Productions vary in complexity from fairly easily small-cast shows to casts of 20-50 performers most with more than one costume change.

Ballibay costume positions are only for people with a real love for designing and making costumes; the positions are mentally and physically challenging, but extremely rewarding in terms of accomplishments and experience. A summer of Ballibay costume will leave you feeling that you have really done something with your summer!

Costume staff are invited and encouraged to make teaching a part of their job; many of our campers are interested in costume design & construction and want to learn from and work with our staff. Most costume staff are also cabin counselors (see benefits section).
